DIY paper lanterns

I just found these cute DIY paper lanterns on the summer edition of sweet paul magazine. I've really been in the mood for this kind of job lately, I've actually spent  most of the last week end folding pages of some old dusty books in order to create origamis to style my library at home - I didn't have the time to shoot any photos yet but I'll be up to it soon - so, I guess I found another little job for this long week end to come. According to the instructions that you'll find here it doesn't seem to be too complicated, let's see, I'll let you know!!

Acabo de encontrar el DIY de estas lamparas de papel en la edicion de verano de la revista sweet paul. Estoy encantada con el papel en estos dias, de hecho me pasé el último fin de semana doblando paginas de viejos libros para hacer unos origamis para decorar mi biblioteca, no tuve el tiempo de sacar ninguna foto todavia, pero en cuanto pueda se las voy a compartir... Así que aparentemente encontré con que ocupar este fin de semana largo que se viene!! 

Katrin Arens lives here

I think I've been a fan of Katrin Arens' work for over a decade already, her style is so fresh and candid that it's impossible to get tired of! Katrin is a german designer who lives with her family in an old mill in the north of Italy, not far away from the place I actually come from. Her home is the place where she conceives and produces her furniture, all handmade and ecofriendly since she uses old woods rescued from demolitions. You can see more pictures of her work here. I'm fascinated by the peaceful atmosphere of this home, I hope you'll enjoy it too!

Hace más de una decada que admiro el trabajo de Katrin Arens, su estilo es tan fresco y genuino que no me cansa nunca. Katrin es una diseñadora alemana radicada en el norte de Italia hace quince años, ella vive con su familia en un antiguo molino cerca de mi pueblo de origen. Su casa es el lugar en donde ella concibe y produce sus muebles, todos hechos a mano y ecologicos dado que emplea viejas maderas rescatadas de demoliciones. Podes ver más imagenes de su trabajo aquí. Me fascina la atmosfera de paz de este hogar, espero que les guste tambien!

Bubi's bed

My little one left the crib a couple of weeks ago, it was just impossible to get him to sleep there anymore. I've been looking for the right toddler bed for weeks but I couldn't find one, they were all too expensive or bad quality and Ikea doesn't exist here. In the end I found this old bed that was forgotten in a deposit in our week end house, I liked at first sight the unusual design and  in addition it is quite low rise, about 20 cm from the floor, like toddler beds. The original colour was really ugly but I painted it and I like it this way, Bubi enjoys sleeping there so the mission is accomplished! As for the length it is a regular bed so it's confortable for me too when he wants my company during the night, since that happens on a regular basis you'll understand how useful it is!!

Mi bebote dejó la cuna, un poco temprano ya que solo tiene un año y medio, pero ya era imposible dormirlo ahí. Busqué una cama toddler durante varias semanas sin éxito: son todas o muy caras o de mala calidad. Al final encontré esta cama abandonada en un depósito en el campo, me encantó desde el primer momento por el diseño, ademas es bastante baja y el niño puede subir y bajar sin problemas. El color original era de una madera no muy linda así que lo pinté de este color y ahora me gusta mucho. Aparentemente al Bubi también le gusta ya que ahora se duerme feliz. El largo de la cama es standard y eso no es un dato menor dado que si de noche tengo que hacerle compañía ;) por lo menos puedo estar comoda yo tambien!!!

Marbleous!!!

Since last year I'm spotting a lot of marble around the blogosphere, I must admit I have never been a fan of it, I used to think that it was cold, pretentious and too classical for my taste. Now I suddenly fell in love with it and I just feel the need to have some marble in my living room! I'm still not sure if this will happen through the top of a piece of furniture, with a coffee table, or simply with some decorations like a candle holder or a wall clock... These are the pictures that inspired me today!

Hace un tiempo que se ve mucho marmol en los blogs, la verdad es que el marmol mucho no me gustaba por varias razones: me parecía frio, pretencioso y quizás demasiado clasico para mi gusto. Ahora de repente me enamoré de este material  y siento la necesidad de incorporarlo a mi living. Todavia no se si me limitaré a unos adornos o si pondré un top de marmol a un mueble bajo como en la foto que sigue... Esta son las imagenes que me inspiraron hoy!

Good ideas from a swedish apartment

Son muchos los detalles que me gustan de este departamento sueco que encontré en Stadshem (más fotos aquí). Para empezar me divierte el contraste entre las estampas tradicionales de los pájaros y de la libélula con esos marcos negros más bien modernos. De la cocina llamaron mi atención (además del color negro que deja entrever la veta de la madera) las manijas de los muebles en cuero y los detalles en bronce: los perfiles de los azulejos, la griferia y el reloj de pared.

There are so many details that I like from this swedish apartment that I found on Stadshem (more pictures here): the contrast between the old fashioned bird prints and the black modern frames, the black colour of the kitchen, the leather handles and the brass details such as the wall clock and the tap.

New plant

Compré esta planta la semana pasada, después de haberla corrida de un lugar a otro del living por fin la puse en la entrada, me gusta como queda con el banco y el dibujo, creo que la dejaré ahí  por un tiempo. La maceta empezó a ponerse blanca por los minerales del agua que filtran por el barro, me gusta mucho ese efecto porque evoca un cierto dramatismo. El verano pasado, cuándo armé por primera vez el balcón quise justamente lograr un efecto más bien moderno y proper por lo tanto me di un gran trabajo pintando el interior de cada macetas con varias manos de impermeabilizante, y el exterior con una pintura especial gris claro. El resultado no me dejó totalmente satisfecha y de a poco fui alternando las macetas pintadas a unas de barro, el balcón por fin adquirió vida!!!

I bought this new plant last week and I put it in the hallway, I think it makes a good match with the bench and the drawing, I'll leave it there for now! The pot started to turn white because of the minerals that filter with the water, but I actually like it that way, it adds some sort of dramatism. Last summer when I decorated my balcony I had a very different idea on my mind, I wanted everything to lokk modern and perfect so I struglled painting all the inside of the pots with a special impermeabling product, and the outside with a soft grey colour. When I finished I wasn't satisfied at all and I ended up mixing the perfectly painted pots with some old terracotta ones, now I like it better!

I'm trying to reproduce an avocado plant from the nut, I realy hope it works out this time!
