Modern one room apartment in Russia

I like the way the kitchen disguises itself in this one room apartment.

And look at the finish of this parquet, it warms up the whole interior that might otherwise look a bit aseptic in my opinion. You can find more pictures and more details (if you speak russian!) here.

My - unfinished - livingroom

This afternoon I used my little one's nap hours to take some photos of my apartment. On sunday I'll travel to Italy and I'll stay there for two months, I guess I needed to immortalize it before the trip, in order to be able to look at it while I'm away... in case you didn't notice I'm a nostalgic one! Here are some pictures of my livingroom, it looks unfinished but I don't mind, I like to take my time to choose every single item that enters my home, furthermore I prefer to reduce the furniture to the essential.

As you can see we didn't buy a coffee table yet.. even though I have some ideas that I shared in this older post...

And here are the PK 22 chairs, it was such an adventure to get them, I'll spare you the story, now they are finally in my possession!

Don't miss those prints!

I think I just found the prints I've been looking for my son's room since before his birth! Designed by David Fleck, an architect with a twist for illustrating, these prints put together art, architecture, people and cities, all with a great feel for colours.

I think I might choose these last two for myself, maybe for the hallway or for our studio. The good news is that all the prints are available in different measures, you can buy them here... and there's a lot more to see on David's blog.

A scandinavian touch in Berlin

Here's another jewel from Fantastic Frank's agency in Berlin. I love everything about this apartment: the original floor painted white, the black stoves, the space assignment and, above all, the view to the private garden, it gives you this countryside feeling while you actually are in Berlin! The decor is a mix of old furniture and design pieces, a spray of colour here and there, some rustic touch, the result is an airy and relaxing space. I could defenetly live here, how about you?

Friday I'm in love #1 Marimekko|Weather diary collection

Have you ever kept a weather diary? Starting from this idea finnish designer Aino Maija Metsola developed these sketches  for Marimekko, how could I possibly not love them at first sight? The concept behind this project is the painterly beauty of weather, so intriguing, isn't it? You can learn more about the whole process here.

This light

I got up early today, my little one woke me up and I couldn't go back to sleep, so I went to the livingroom and the sun was rising, drawing shapes of the plants that are in the balcony on the linen curtains, this put me in a good mood!

DIY paper lanterns

I just found these cute DIY paper lanterns on the summer edition of sweet paul magazine. I've really been in the mood for this kind of job lately, I've actually spent  most of the last week end folding pages of some old dusty books in order to create origamis to style my library at home - I didn't have the time to shoot any photos yet but I'll be up to it soon - so, I guess I found another little job for this long week end to come. According to the instructions that you'll find here it doesn't seem to be too complicated, let's see, I'll let you know!!

Katrin Arens lives here

I think I've been a fan of Katrin Arens' work for over a decade already, her style is so fresh and candid that it's impossible to get tired of! Katrin is a german designer who lives with her family in an old mill in the north of Italy, not far away from the place I actually come from. Her home is the place where she conceives and produces her furniture, all handmade and ecofriendly since she uses old woods rescued from demolitions. You can see more pictures of her work here. I'm fascinated by the peaceful atmosphere of this home, I hope you'll enjoy it too!

Bubi's bed

My little one left the crib a couple of weeks ago, it was just impossible to get him to sleep there anymore. I've been looking for the right toddler bed for weeks but I couldn't find one, they were all too expensive or bad quality and Ikea doesn't exist here. In the end I found this old bed that was forgotten in a deposit in our week end house, I liked at first sight the unusual design and  in addition it is quite low rise, about 20 cm from the floor, like toddler beds. The original colour was really ugly but I painted it and I like it this way, Bubi enjoys sleeping there so the mission is accomplished! As for the length it is a regular bed so it's confortable for me too when he wants my company during the night, since that happens on a regular basis you'll understand how useful it is!!

Marbleous!!!

Since last year I'm spotting a lot of marble around the blogosphere, I must admit I have never been a fan of it, I used to think that it was cold, pretentious and too classical for my taste. Now I suddenly fell in love with it and I just feel the need to have some marble in my living room! I'm still not sure if this will happen through the top of a piece of furniture, with a coffee table, or simply with some decorations like a candle holder or a wall clock... These are the pictures that inspired me today!
***

Good ideas from a swedish apartment

Fotos via Stadshem

There are so many details that I like from this swedish apartment that I found on Stadshem (more pictures here): the contrast between the old fashioned bird prints and the black modern frames, the black colour of the kitchen, the leather handles and the brass details such as the wall clock and the tap.
